Study for an MBA in Alabama
Auburn
University College of Business Alabama United States
Auburn University's College of
Business offers an Executive MBA Program (EMBA), a Physicians Executive MBA
Program (PEMBA) and a Custom Executive MBA Program for corporations, all of
which are AACSB accredited, launch each Fall and run 21 months.
The Executive MBA Program is aimed at mid and upper level professionals and
is designed to optimize a working professional's most valuable resource -
time.
Auburn's program design, anchored with its five on-campus residencies and
international trip, affords the executive both the real time interaction
with faculty and fellow executives, and the flexibility of a self-paced
distance program. Specialized concentrations are also offered in Technology
Management and HealthCare.
The Auburn EMBA encompasses the foundations of a business education and
places them in an international context. After analyzing global issues
through reading, case studies and lectures, Auburn Executive Students travel
as a class to study business and management practices beyond the United
States. There is no substitute for first hand international experience. It
broadens the students' horizons, equips them with the tools to excel in the
global marketplace, and distinguishes them in the crowded world of MBA
graduates. Business leaders learn the technical, analytical and creative
skills necessary to excel in the world of 21st century business.
Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and represent such
outstanding organizations as Booz Allen Hamilton, Cisco Systems, Chick-fil-A, GlaxoSmithKline, Hyundai Motors, IBM, Milliken, Nokia, Raytheon, Siemens, U. S. Coast Guard, U. S. Navy, and many others.
Applicants to the EMBA program are required to have a 4 year undergraduate
degree and at least 8 years of progressively responsible work experience. A
structured interview can be substituted for the GMAT entrance exam.
For physicians only, the Physicians Executive MBA Program affords physicians
the opportunity to earn a fully accredited MBA degree with minimal
interference on their professional demands. Five short (Wednesday or
Thursday through Sunday noon) on-campus residencies, international study and
innovative distance learning technologies create an intensive, but flexible
learning environment designed to provide doctors with the business and
organizational tools to gain more control over their own practice or to
assume executive positions in healthcare or related industries.
The PEMBA program includes two study trips to enrich students' perspectives
on the future alternatives and possibilities for healthcare delivery and
practice. First, the class spends a week in London or Paris getting in-depth
exposure to a healthcare system different from that operating in the US.
Toward the end of the program, the class also spends a week in Washington, DC interacting with US policy makers to learn and debate the future of US
national healthcare.
Applicants to the PEMBA program must have a medical degree from an
accredited American university or medical college or certified equivalent.
Entrance exams such as the GMAT or GRE are not required.
The residencies and distance components of the EMBA and PEMBA programs are
similar. Students visit Auburn's campus five times during the 21 month
program. During these short residencies, the bulk of one course is delivered
in a face-to-face, classroom/workshop setting. The distance component is
delivered on interactive DVD. Each DVD contains a full-motion video lecture, as well as supplementary print, photo and slide materials, test and review
questions and internet links. Underpinning this electronic delivery is
EMBANET, a tried and tested on-line learning platform. Each class has a
unique conference site. Through EMBANET, students can work with team members
on group assignments, ask questions and hold discussions with their
professors and classmates, submit homework, download course materials and
stay in touch with the program.
Auburn's Executive MBA Program office also works with senior executives and
their Human Resource organization to develop Custom Executive MBA programs
for the company's employees. The curriculum is modeled after the EMBA
program with electives chosen by the company and class projects applied to
company issues. An international trip may or may not be included at the
company's option. Delivery of the course materials varies slightly from the
other two programs in that there is no distance component, students take one
class at a time and meet one weekend a month on-site at the company's
facility with Auburn's faculty. Over the course of the program, students
will spend three weekends on the Auburn campus. The custom program also
takes advantage of EMBANET to keep students connected with each other, the
faculty and program staff.
Applicants to the Custom EMBA program are required to have a 4 year
undergraduate degree. Work experience requirements may vary at the
employer's discretion and applicants must have company sponsorship. An
interview is required; however entrance exams such as the GMAT are not.
Customer service is at the core of the Executive programs. Our programs work
because we focus on the student. The Executive MBA program coordinators
register the students for classes, purchase the textbooks and course
materials, make the hotel reservations, cater the meals and generally act as
an interface between the students and the university. Students can
concentrate on the coursework and let us take care of the rest.
Auburn University is a special place, with special people, and special
