The United States Sports Academy, 'America's Sport University', was founded in 1972 as an independent, non-profit, special mission school of sport offering programs of instruction, research, and service, nationally and internationally. The role of the Academy in higher education is to prepare men and women for professions in the areas of Sports Management, Sports Coaching, Sports Medicine, Fitness Management, and Sports Studies. Over the past thirty years, the Academy has developed one of the largest sport education programs in the world. The United States Sports Academy believes that there are societal needs with respect to sport that must be met, and by serving the nation and the world as the preeminent sport education resource, the Academy strives to meet these needs.

The Academy's sport programs are designed for the working professional and are structured to be flexible, affordable and convenient. The Academy works on rolling Enrolment meaning that all of the online courses are offered all the time, any time. Students can register for any course, any day and are given 15 weeks to complete each course(s). The online courses are also asynchronous meaning students are not required to meet online at a certain time. The program is designed so students can start at anytime, complete the program on their own time, and manage work and family responsibilities while pursuing their degree.  

Bachelor of Sports Science

The United States Sports Academy offers an upper-level Bachelor of Sports Science (B. S. S. ) Degree program in Sports Coaching and Sports Management. The program consists of the final 60 semester hours of the 120 hours required for the B. S. S. degree. The goal of the B. S. S. program is to provide needed education credentials to students interested in pursuing careers in the sport industry. Students can choose to complete the B. S. S. Degree through the Residential Program, the USSA OnLine Distance Learning Program, or a combination of both. The Resident Program allows students to personally interact with mentors and instructors while taking courses in beautiful Daphne near the white-sand beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Master of Sports Science

The United States Sports Academy offers a Master of Sports Science (M. S. S. ) Degree program in Sports Management, Sports Coaching, Sports Medicine, Fitness Management, and Sports Studies. A minimum of 33 semester hours is required to complete the master's degree curriculum in the various majors. The M. S. S. program is designed to prepare students for a leadership role in the profession of sports management, sports information, sports coaching, sports medicine, and sports and fitness facility management. Students can choose to complete the M. S. S. degree through the Residential Program, the USSA OnLine Distance Learning Program, or a combination of both. The Resident Program allows students to personally interact with mentors and instructors while taking courses in beautiful Daphne near the white-sand beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast. The USSA OnLine Distance Learning Program offers the student the flexibility to take classes and earn an accredited degree without leaving the home of job.

Doctor of Sports Management

The Doctor of Sports Management (D. S. M. ) program at the United States Sports Academy is a 60 semester-hour program above the master's degree. Bachelor's degree graduates may enter the 84 semester-hour accelerated doctoral program. The D. S. M. degree with an emphasis in sports medicine is also available. Students can choose to complete the D. S. M. degree through the Residential Program, the USSA OnLine Distance Learning Program, or a combination of both. The D. S. M. carries with it a residential requirement of either one 6-week summer session or three 2-week mini summer sessions. The residential requirement applies equally to residential students, distance learning students or students who use a combination of both residential and distance learning.

Accreditation

The United States Sports Academy is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award the Master of Sport Science (Level II) and the Doctor of Sport Management degree (Level V), and is in a candidate for accreditation for the Bachelor of Sports Science Degree (Level III). The United States Sports Academy's Sports Management programs at the Master's and Doctoral levels are approved by the Sport Management Program Review Council, a joint program of the North American Society of Sport Management (NASSM) and the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). The Academy is also licensed by the Alabama Department of Education to grant the Master of Sports Science and Doctor of Sports Management degrees. Students seeking teaching certification in states other than Alabama should check with their local school district administration and State Department of Education.
