LOCATION UNA is located in the city of Florence, in the northwest corner of the state of Alabama. ACADEMICS The University of North Alabama is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and its world-class professional colleges of Business, Education, and Nursing and Allied Health have additional levels of professional accreditation. This makes obtaining a degree from UNA all the more valuable. In addition, various academic programs in the outstanding College of Arts and Sciences at the University have specialized accreditation or certification. These include art, chemistry, industrial hygiene, music, and social work. UNA has been ranked by the publishers of U. S. CENTER FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING UNA offers Intensive English Study for students with low intermediate through advanced level competencies in English. Classes are broken down into Listening, Speaking, Reading/Vocabulary, Grammar/Writing and TOEFL Preparation. Students also spend two hours four days a week in the Multimedia Language Lab. UNA also offers, free of charge, additional supplemental English Language classes which students may attend. These two hour supplemental classes focus on listening/speaking or reading/writing skills and incorporate various aspects of American culture. In addition, students in levels four and five audit regular academic classes for the last three weeks of the semester to help these students transition smoothly into regular academic program from English Language classes. Each semester consists of two eight week terms with an English placement test being given at the end of each term. It is possible for students to advance a level after each placement test. STUDENT LIFE UNA provides activities, entertainment, and a variety of programs of general interest and of cultural value for its students. These experiences offer students opportunities for developing social skills, leadership skills, and volunteerism while providing activities for stress- relief and fun. Over 110 student organizations help students to experience real American campus life.
