NCU is the first regionally accredited university in the country to make this type of learning environment available, particularly to those seeking doctoral degrees. The educational emphasis developed by Northcentral University to accomplish its mission has three key components: (1) distance learning, (2) active self-learning, and (3) one-on-one mentoring. The goal of Northcentral University is to promote an environment of active self-learning with the assistance of qualified and experienced faculty mentors. Active self-learning recognizes that education is a process where individuals with different learning needs and styles can be accommodated. It emphasizes learning that is meaningful, where individuals are involved in and enjoy the learning process, and where individuals acquire knowledge to better understand and cope with their own careers. The University's faculty mentors support the adult's active learning role by guiding and stimulating the learning process in one-on-one interaction. Our Mentors hold academic credentials from prestigious accredited universities (80% have doctoral degrees in their field) and have years of relevant professional experience. Our faculty members recognize individual learning styles and needs, encourage one-on-one contact, and emphasize the relevance of the material to the individual's situation. They share their knowledge and experience in order to make course work and learning meaningful and memorable. Our flexible Enrolment policy allows Learners to begin courses on the first of each month, and complete them anytime within a 16-week term. Learners may begin their next course ahead of schedule upon completion of the previous course in order to move quickly through their degree program. Credits from an accredited institution, military training and experience, and AP, CLEP, and DSST tests may be awarded in transfer. Determination of transfer credits will be verified with a transcript review.
