Study Management and Marketing

Arkansas State University

Department of Management and Marketing

The Department of Management and Marketing offers a comprehensive program of study designed to provide a professional education for students seeking careers in business enterprises or non-profit organizations. The increasingly competitive environment facing today's organizations requires the strategic management of resources and constant attention to markets and channels. As major courses of study, management and marketing establish a competence level that enables students to pursue a range of career choices upon graduation.

The Management Major:

  • The decisions of management in today's businesses are recognized as having broad implications extending beyond the individual firm. In recognition of this, the major in Management offers preparations necessary for future managers to excel in all levels of management. This program offers two emphasis areas: Human Resource Management and Leadership. The flexibility of this program allows the student and his or her adviser to build a program based on realistic educational objectives.

The Marketing Major:

  • Marketing is the process of planning and executing the conceptions, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational objectives. All types of organizations perform marketing activities to facilitate exchanges. Business as well as non business organizations such as universities, charitable organizations, community theaters and hospitals perform marketing activities. The major in marketing provides a comprehensive education for those interested in planning and implementing successful marketing strategies. The students with the energy, ability, and the competitive urge will discover that this major will open many opportunities to serve the public as well as receive many rewards. Elective concentration may be developed to emphasize Marketing Management or Logistics (transportation and distribution) functions.
The Business Education Major:
  • Business Education is a program of study designed to prepare teachers of business subjects for the secondary schools. Business subjects taught in the secondary school are generally designed to provide initial job entrance for high school graduates or to prepare high school graduates with those general economic competencies they will need to take their place in the adult world. Emphasis is given, through this department and the College of Education, to the ways in which this information can be most effectively imparted. For satisfactory completion of the degree program within this department, a student must fulfill all applicable requirements as established by the university, the College of Business, the College of Education, and this department. Vocational certification is available. The department is approved by the State of Arkansas for teacher training. Graduates with this major are qualified to teach vocational business office education at the secondary and post secondary levels.
The International Business Major will provide the student the necessary skills to compete in the global market. The student will also learn about new cultures and societies, and strange laws and perspectives. And in today's business world, it is clear that knowledge of other cultures is crucial to being a successful international businessperson. Job opportunities in International Business include positions with international companies such as Coca Cola, Daimler Chrysler and Federal Express.
