Study at California Institute of Technology


The California Institute of Technology, also known as Caltech, was established in 1891. It is a private research university and is located in Pasadena, California. Caltech manages and operates a NASA Center known as Jet Propulsion Laboratory. It has been ranked in the top 10 universities around the world by citation index, Nobel Prizes. Caltech is divided into the following academic divisions:

Caltech's athletics department sponsors more than 12 sports teams. These teams are nicknamed as the Beavers. They compete in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II. The Beavers participate in sports including volleyball, basketball, swimming and tennis.

Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 700. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 770 and 800. Many applicants are from out of state, an indication of the quality or special character of the school.

FacultyThe school maintains a faculty/student ratio (full-time) which is better than most colleges. Cal Tech has a tenure system for senior faculty. The full-time faculty at the school is well-paid, which often goes with faculty quality.

Student LifeFull-time students are the norm at Cal Tech. The school offers dorm rooms to a higher percentage of its students than do most colleges.
