Students from CSULA's College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology have won national scholarships at the American Solar Challenge for the creation of advanced vehicles. The Golden Eagles, the name of CSULA's sports teams, include separate baseball, basketball, soccer, cross country, volleyball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field teams. Well known alumni of this university includes NASA personalities like Samuel Durrance and Sy Liebergot, authors Octavia Butler and Joseph Wambaugh, the famous tennis player Billie Jean King and several other well known actors and athletes.
