Study at Merritt College


Merritt College was founded in 1954 as the Merritt School of Business. It was named after Dr. Samuel Merritt. The college is a part of the Peralta Community College District. It is located in an area of more than 120 acres in the hills of Oakland, California. In 1971, the college moved to its present campus. There are several academic departments at Merritt College. Some of these are the computer information systems, environmental management and technology, paralegal studies, business administration, administration of justice and medical assistant departments. The college also offers a number of scholarships. The sports teams of Merritt College are nicknamed the Thunderbirds and compete in a wide variety of sports like men's and women's basketball, cross-country, track and field and men's soccer. The college competes in the Bay Valley Conference.
