Study at Colorado School of MinesThe Colorado School of Mines, established in 1873 by the Episcopal Church, had control transferred to the Colorado Territory in the following year. It gained the status of a state institution in 1876. Also referred to as CSM, the campus encompasses more than 370 acres in the small town of Golden, Colorado. The first building of the campus was built in 1880 and today CSM offers a number of degrees and certificate programs in several fields of study. It is organized into numerous academic departments. CSM participates in a wide variety of sports including baseball, basketball, football, softball, golf, cross country, soccer, swimming and diving, volleyball, track and field, and wrestling. Their athletic teams are called the Orediggers and the school has two mascots, Marvin the Miner and Blaster the Burro. According to the 2008 edition of U. S. News and World Report, CSM has ranked 33rd out of the Top 50 Public National Universities and 75th out of all American Universities.
