Learning Support Programme
The British School Caracas was established in 1950 and is located in a purpose-built facility in Altamira, a pleasant suburb of Caracas. The school has developed considerably over the years and offers an English language programme based upon the English National Curriculum for students aged 3 to 16 years of age. The main focus is on the development of English literacy, numeracy, science and ICT skills across the curriculum, creativity and performing arts, but it also includes first and second language Spanish from Kindergarten to Year 11 and Venezuelan culture. The majority of staff are British trained, general subject class teachers but there are specialist teachers to teach Spanish, Music and PE. The school has a well-established learning support and PSHE programme that provides assistance for those students with individual needs. The ESL programme uses individual tuition and in class support for those students who require it. School facilities include two computer laboratories and each classroom has at least two computers, all connected to the intranet and internet. There is a well-equipped science laboratory, a library and media centre, art room, music rooms, Design Technology facility, an amphitheatre, hall and PE areas. The school operates a northern hemisphere school year based upon three terms from September to July with a three-week break at Christmas and a two-week break at Easter. The school day runs from 07: 45 to 15: 00 Monday to Friday.

The school's co-curricular programme is varied, open to all ages, and includes sports such as hockey, judo, karate, cricket, basketball and football as well as music, drama, art and craft, storytelling, ballet, computing and science clubs. Residential trips are a part of the curriculum for all students from Year 5 to Year 11 and include hiking, white water rafting, camping and bird watching in the cloud forest, coastal national parks and Los Llanos. Admission is via personal interview and assessment.
