Study at Berry College


The historical roots of Berry College can be traced back to 1902 when the Boys Industrial School was established. Seven years later, a girl's school was formed. In 1926, a junior college was included. The institute finally became a senior college, and the first batch of students graduated from Berry College in 1932. This four-year liberal arts institute currently sits on a 26, 000 acre campus in Mount Berry, Georgia.

Berry College offers bachelor's degrees in arts, music, and science, and master's degrees in education, and business administration. Dual degree programs and courses in pre-professional studies are also available. Berry College offers the following academic divisions:

  • Charter School of Education and Human Sciences
  • Evans School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
  • School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences
The sports teams of Berry College compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The mascot for the teams is called the Viking. There are men's and women's teams in baseball, golf, soccer, cross country, tennis, softball, and swimming.

Berry Selectivity

The school does not admit all applicants. The middle range of verbal SAT scores in 2007 was 510 to 620 for students at Berry. While math SAT scores among applicants varied, those accepted commonly had scores between 510 and 610.

Faculty

One indicator of school quality is the number of students per professor, and here the school does well in comparison to most schools. Some professors at Berry are awarded tenure, allowing the school to retain good faculty members.

Student Life

Most students at Berry attend full-time. The school is not thought of as a commuter school, and many students live on campus or nearby. Dorm living is common. Athletic teams at the school belong to the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference for major sports. Student athletes can receive financial aid in some cases.
