Shawnee Community College, established in 1967, originally had a rustic campus. It moved into the new 153-acre main campus in Ullin, Illinois, in 1976. Apart from this, classes are also held in the Anna Center, Cairo Center, East St. Louis Higher Education Center, and Metro Center

Shawnee Community College offers over 100 associate's degrees and certificate programs. Students can choose from courses in the fields of allied health, early childhood, automotive technology, drug abuse, nursing, medical transcription, electronic technologies, fish and wildlife management, and truck driving, among others.

The sports teams of Shawnee Community College are nicknamed the Saints. They participate in basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and golf. Students are also members of clubs and organizations such as the Book Club, Car Club, Electronics Club, Future Teachers Club, Music Club, Phi Beta Lambda, Phi Theta Kappa, Student Ambassadors, Student Senate, and Wildlife Club.
