The charter for Oakland City University was originally granted in 1885, but the first classes were held in 1891. It was then known as the Oakland City College. The 34-acre main campus of Oakland City University is located in Oakland City, Indiana. However, the university also operates branch campuses in Bedford, Evansville, Indianapolis, and Rockport, Indiana.
