Study at Berea College


Berea College is a private, undergraduate, liberal arts institute, and is located in Berea, Kentucky. Berea College was established as the first interracial and co-educational college in the South in 1855. It offers a number of bachelor's degrees, teacher education programs, and pre-professional programs. The programs of study at the college are in the fields of social sciences, applied sciences, humanities, music, business, and foreign languages, among others. According to the U. S. News and World Report of 2009, Berea College was placed at the 69th position in the Best Colleges category.

Berea College's students participate in many sports including swimming, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field. The teams are nicknamed the Mountaineers, and they compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Among the notable alumni of the college include John B. Fenn, Nobel laureate for chemistry in 2002; Finley Hamilton, US Representative from Kentucky; and Muse Watson, American actor.
