Maryville University of St. Louis , also referred to as Maryville, was established in the year 1872 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart as an academy for women. In 1923 it became a four-year college and in 1991 it gained university status. It is one of the oldest private universities in the St. Louis , Missouri area. The campus spreads across an area of more than 250 acres. The college offers a wide range of courses, majors, and minors in diverse Course Topics. It offers education through the following schools and colleges:

Maryville University's athletics department fields several men's and women's sports teams. Their sports teams are known as the Saints. Maryville is a member of the NCAA Division III and competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
