Southeast Missouri State University was established in 1873 and is a public college situated in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The campus is set on nearly 400 acres of land. The university's sports teams are called the Redhawks. The athletic teams are a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I. The school has basketball, tennis, cross country, volleyball, track, softball, and soccer teams. Neal E. Boyd, winner of “America's Got Talent”;Peter Kinder, politician; Linda Godwin, NASA astronaut; Dick Hantak, NFL referee; and Velmer A. Fassel, scientist; are among the notable alumni of Southeast Missouri State University.
