The University of Nebraska at Kearney, also known informally as UNK, is the Kearney campus of the University of Nebraska system. It was originally established in 1905 as the Nebraska State Normal School. It gained university status on July 1, 1991. UNK's campus comprises of more than 30 buildings and is spread across an area of over 250 acres. It is organized into the following academic divisions:

  • College of Fine Arts and Humanities
  • College of Natural and Social Sciences
UNK's athletic department fields men's and women's sports teams. They compete in the NCAA Division II. They are nicknamed the Loopers. Some notable alumni are Don Welch, poet; Curt Coffman, bestselling author; and Marlo T. Bluford, Emmy award winning television producer.
