The University of Nebraska at Omaha is the Omaha campus of the University of Nebraska system. It was originally founded in 1908 as Omaha University. It was rechristened University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1968, following a merger with the University of Nebraska. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs through several academic divisions.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha has an athletics department that fields men's and women's teams in more than ten different sports. The sports teams are nicknamed the Mavericks. They compete in the NCAA Division II Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Some of the notable alumni of the University are James R.
