New Jersey Institute of Technology is a public research university established in 1881. It has an urban campus spread over 45 acres of land, and offers Enrolment to over 5, 000 undergraduate and more than 2, 000 postgraduate students every year. Students at NJIT can choose from over 100 degree programs in more than 20 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate specialties. NJIT is better known for its research capabilities in various fields, including solar physics, polymer science, nanotechnology, and the development of a smart gun technology. The athletics teams of NJIT are known as the Highlanders, and wear colors of red, white and navy. The sports available at this university include baseball, basketball, cross-country, fencing, ice hockey, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. There is also a cheer team.
