New Mexico State University was established in 1888. It was initially founded as an agricultural institute called “Las Cruces College. ” In 1960, the name was changed to New Mexico State University. The main campus of NMSU is in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The main campus of this university currently enrolls over 15, 000 students in its associate, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs. Students can also pursue post-masters certifications at the NMSU main campus.
The athletics teams of New Mexico State University are nicknamed the Aggies. This name was probably inspired by the university's agricultural beginnings. The team colors are crimson
and white and the mascot is “Pistol Pete”.
