Study at University of New Mexico Main Campus


The University of New Mexico, or UNM, is a public university located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was established in 1889. The university offers multiple bachelor, master, doctoral, and professional degree programs in diverse Course Topics. The main campus is spread across an area of more than 600 acres.

UNM's athletic teams are nicknamed the Lobos. Their official mascots are named Lobo Louie and Lobo Lucy. They compete in the Mountain West Conference. Some of the notable alumni of the university are Edward Abbey, author of ‘The Monkey Wrench Gang'; Timothy Braun, writer and playwright; Stoney Case, NFL Quarterback; Onawa Lacy, Miss New Mexico USA (2006); and Cissy King, singer and dancer of ‘the Lawrence Welk Show'.

University of New Mexico Selectivity

Admission at the school is selective, not open to all who apply. Three quarters of students in 2007 had SAT verbal scores of at least 470. Half of math SAT scores of accepted students fell between 460 and 600. Many applicants are from out of state, an indication of the quality or special character of the school.
