Study at CUNY York College

York College of The City University of New York, also referred to as York, is a public, coeducational College located in Queens, New York, United States. It was established in 1847 as the Free Academy to provide free, higher education in New York City. In 1961, the City University of New York was established, incorporating the Free Academy, and other units, under the then Board of Higher Education. It was then that the college received its present name. The College opened its doors as York College in 1966.

The men s and women s sports teams of York College are known as the Cardinals and Lady Cardinals respectively. The official mascot is the Cardinal. Men participate in cross country, soccer, basketball, track & field (indoor and outdoor), swimming, volleyball, and tennis. Women participate in cross country, basketball, volleyball, track & field (indoor and outdoor), swimming, and softball.
