Study at Catawba College


Established in 1851 by the North Carolina Classis of Reformed Church in the United States, Catawba College served as the Catawba High School during the Civil War years. In 1885, it resumed operations under the name Catawba College. This coeducational liberal arts institute is located in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Catawba College offers a number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the fields of business administration, education, environmental science, history, music, languages, psychology, and theater arts, among others. The courses are offered through the following academic centres:

The sports teams of Catawba College are nicknamed the Catawba Indians. They are members of the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Conference, and compete in sports including baseball, basketball, football, golf, lacrosse, cross country, swimming, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.

Catawba is in a town not far from a more urbanized area, in Salisbury, NC. The school has a United Church of Christ religious affiliation. Catawba is classified as a private, not-for-profit college. Students at the school earn degrees up to the Master's degree.

Course Topics

There are more programs of study at Catawba than you'll find at most colleges of similar size. The most common major fields study at the school include mathematics, music, drama and performing arts, business and management, nutrition and exercise therapy, and conservation and resource management.

Catawba Selectivity

Catawba does not admit all applicants. The middle range of verbal SAT scores in 2007 was 450 to 510 for students at the school. While math SAT scores among applicants varied, those accepted commonly had scores between 470 and 580.

Student Life

Most students at Catawba attend full-time. Dorm living is common. Catawba makes available student meal plans. Athletic teams at the school belong to the South Atlantic Conference for major sports. Student athletes can receive financial aid in some cases.
