North Carolina Central University was established on July 10, 1910. It was founded by Dr. James E. Shepard as a National Religious Training School. It was renamed North Carolina Central University in 1969. There are over 120 registered student organizations and more than 10 honor societies in this institution. North Carolina Central University has football, softball, baseball, basketball, track and field, tennis, volleyball, bowling, and golf teams.
