The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is a public, co-educational liberal arts university located in Pembroke, North Carolina. It was established in 1887, as the Croatan Normal School. The school is historically American Indian, and white students were not granted admission to UNC-P until the 1960s. In 1972, the University was incorporated into the University of North Carolina system. On July 1, 1996, its name was changed to The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The university's campus stretches over more than 150 acres of land and admits more than 5, 000 students every year.
