It was established in the year 1960 as Point Park College. After a few name and status changes, it adopted its present name in 2004. Point Park University hosts more than eight National Association of Intercollegiate sports teams. The athletics teams are nicknamed the Pioneers. The Pioneers compete in the American Mideast Conference which is the biggest conference in the NAIA. They participate in basketball, baseball, cross country, soccer, softball, and volleyball.
