Swarthmore College, founded in 1864, is a coeducational, independent, private college located in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, United States. The college offers a number of degree courses in liberal arts, along with a solitary four-year engineering program, at the end of which students are granted a B. S. degree in Engineering. The suburban campus of the college spreads across approximately 399 acres of suburban land.

The athletics teams of the Swarthmore College are known as the Garnet. The official mascot of the college is the Phoenix. More than 20 varsity intercollegiate sports teams fielded by the college participate in basketball, cross country, baseball, field hockey, softball, soccer, golf, lacrosse, swimming, volleyball, track and field and tennis. The students are also encouraged to participate in a number of club sports including ultimate frisbee, volleyball, rugby, squash and fencing.
