Potomac State College of West Virginia University was established in 1901, and started as the West Virginia University's Keyser Preparatory Branch. It was later renamed the West Virginia Preparatory School. The institute eventually became a junior college. The Potomac State College of West Virginia University offers approximately 50 associate's degree programs in a wide range of subjects. The sports teams of the college are known as the Catamounts. The teams participate in volleyball, golf, basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer. The students are also associated with several clubs and organizations including the Physical Ed Club, Japanese Club, Campus Crusade For Christ, and Computer Club. The Student Government Association organizes a number of campus-wide activities and programs for the students.
