West Virginia State University

West Virginia State University, also known as West Virginia State, or WVSU, is a public university located in Kanawha County, United States. It was originally established in 1891 as the West Virginia Colored Institute. After a few name and status changes, it became a university in 2004. WVSU offers several undergraduate and graduate degree programs to students. The university is organized into the following academic colleges:  
  • College of Arts and Humanities
  • College of Business Administration and Social Sciences
  • College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
  • College of Professional Studies
West Virginia State houses an athletics department. The university is a member of the NCAA Division II and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Their sports teams are nicknamed the Yellow Jackets.
